Metropolis Customization

If you need help with your Metropolis theme, you're in the right place! Under the Customize page on your blog, you can make edits to appearance, sharing options, social media links, and more!

Title, Description, Colors & Fonts

Title - The title of your blog will appear at the top of your Metropolis theme and in the collapsable menu. Make sure to toggle on "Show Title" if you want your title to appear on your blog.

Description - Your description should be an explanation of your blog. It will appear in the collapsable menu on the left of your screen. If you want the description to appear, make sure to toggle the "Show description" option on. 

Font Options:

Header Font Size - This defines the font size for the title in your header.

Header Font Weight - This defines the thickness of the title your header.

Header Height - This defines the height of your header box (i.e. 115px).

Theme Font Stack- This is the font family for your theme's posts. For example, 'Rosario', sans-serif.

Body Font Stack - This is the font family for your body text (posts and elsewhere in your theme). For example, 'Oswald', sans-serif.

Header Font Stack - This is the font for your header text (blog title). For example, 'Oswald', sans-serif.

Typekit ID Typekit enables you to add custom fonts to your blog. In order to use TypeKit, you need to have a TypeKit account and then set up you blog within TypeKit and associate fonts to it. You will need to enter your TypeKit ID in the customize section for Metropolis once your TypeKit account is set up.

Color Options:

Background - This sets the background color of the site.

Header Background - This sets the background color of the header where the title of your blog appears.

Text - This sets the color of the text within the posts along with the color of the social icons (on hover).

Link - This sets the color of links.

Link Hover - This sets the color of links when the mouse pointer hovers over the link.

Accent - This sets the accent color of the theme.

Post Border - This sets the color of the border around all posts.

Header & Image Options

Background - You can use the browse button here to upload a custom image that will serve as the background of the entire site. The image will automatically repeat vertically and horizontally.

Header Background - You can use the browse button here to upload a custom image or logo that will link to the home page of your blog. If you want to use a repeatable image as a background, upload an image of any size. If you want to insert a custom logo, upload an image that is 750 pixels in width and 115 pixels in height (the height must match the “Header Height” value in the customize section for Metropolis - 115 pixels is the default). Then make sure that you check “Use Header Background As Logo” in the customize section for Metropolis.

Scale Images - Check to scale photos to full post width.

Enable Endless Scrolling - Checking this box will enable endless scrolling instead of pagination.

Use Header Background as Logo - Check this option to create a logo that matches your header background. The logo will appear in your collapsable menu on the left.

Show Links & Sharing

Show Sharing Features - Metropolis enables you to display share buttons for the following social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, and Tumblr. Within the customize section, check the “Show Sharing Features” box to turn on this feature. Please note that the Tumblr button will only be displayed at the bottom of permalink posts. The Pinterest button is only used for photo (not photoset) and audio posts (only if album art exists)..

Show Notes - Metropolis will display the notes that you receive with each and every post. To turn on this feature, please check the “Show Notes” box in the customize section.

Show Group Features - Metropolis supports groups blogs. You must check “Show Group Features” in order for Metropolis’s group options to display on your blog. When this is checked, each post will display the author of the post and link to that author’s primary blog.

Show Archive Link - Checking this box will display a link to the blog archive.

Show Blogs I Follow - Checking this box will display icons of the blogs you follow.

Following Label - If you have enabled Show Blogs I Follow (above), enter the heading you would like to appear above the display of blogs icons (e.g., “Who I Follow”).

Following Rows - Enter the number of rows of blog icons that you would like to display in the following section.

Show Home Link - Checking this box will display a link to the blog’s home page in the main navigation menu.

Show Posts I Like - Checking this box will display your “liked” posts.

Likes Count - Enter the number of likes to display within the likes section. You can enter either 3, 6, or 9.

Likes Label - Customize the heading/label for your likes here.

Show Portrait - Checking this box will display the portrait photo associated with the blog.

Show RSS Link - Checking this box will display a link to the RSS feed of your blog.

Show Random Link - Checking this box will display a link to generate a random post.

Show Search - Checking this box will display the search box.

Social Media

Show Social Icons - Toggle ON this option to make social media icons appear in the title bar of your blog. Make sure you have added your social media profile URLs to the customize entries (ex. "URL Facebook," "URL Instagram," etc.) for the icons to link properly to your profiles.

Your About Area:

Metropolis offers you the ability to consolidate a variety of content in an about section, which can be used to communicate more info about your blog or about you. You have the option to include the following content in the about area:

  • Blog Title (display by checking the “Show Title” box in the customize section for Metropolis)
  • Blog Portrait Photo (display by checking the “Show Portrait” box in the customize section for Metropolis)
  • Blog Description (display by checking the “Show Description” in the customize section for Metropolis)
  • Latest Tweet (displays by following the directions under “Recent Tweets” near the top of this page)
  • Featured posts (displays your two most recent featured posts)
  • Recent photos from Instagram (displays your most recent Instagram photos)
  • Recent photos from Flickr (displays your most recent Flickr photos)
  • Liked posts (displays your 2 most recent liked posts by checking the “Show Likes” box in the customize section for Metropolis)
  • Blogs you follow (display by checking the “Show Blogs I Follow” box in the customize section for Metropolis)
